What does boat insurance cover?

Boat insurance gives you peace of mind on the water and protects both you and your boat against unforeseen events. At Fælles Forsikring, we offer solutions that cover everything from smaller sailboats to larger motorboats, so you can enjoy boating without worry.

Liability Insurance

Liability insurance protects you financially if your boat causes damage to other people or their boats. The statutory liability insurance applies both during and outside the sailing period: During the sailing period, the insurance covers your liability for damages that occur when using the boat - both while sailing and while the boat is on land. Outside the sailing period, the insurance only covers damage that occurs while the boat is on land.

Comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance protects your boat, its equipment and personal belongings against a wide range of damages. With this cover, you are protected against, among other things:

  • Fire
  • Lightning strike
  • Explosion
  • Electrical damage
  • Theft or burglary
  • Vandalism
  • Storm damage

Sailing damage: For example, if the boat sinks, capsizes, runs aground, beaches or collides.Sudden damage: Damage that happens unexpectedly and immediately, not damage that develops over time.Legal assistance included in the comprehensive cover

The comprehensive cover also includes legal expenses cover. It covers legal costs in certain private legal disputes involving you as the owner or user of the insured vessel. The cover applies up to DKK 125,000 (incl. VAT) per insured event.

Is winter storage of the boat covered by the insurance?

Yes, boat insurance covers damage that occurs during winter storage, provided the boat is properly stored and secured against weather damage. The comprehensive cover also applies outside the sailing period, but only for damage that occurs while the boat is on land.

What is legal expenses cover and how does it work?

Legal expenses cover helps cover legal costs if you, as a boat owner, become involved in a private legal dispute related to the use or ownership of the boat. The insurance covers up to DKK 125,000 (incl. VAT) per insurance event, and the 10% excess can be covered if you are granted legal aid.

Does the Boat Insurance apply abroad?

Yes, but only within the designated geographical area.

The insurance covers sailing and docking in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, German, and Polish waters, but not west of the line at 7 degrees east longitude, the line at 61 degrees north latitude, or the inner German waterways south of the line at 52 degrees north latitude, as well as in the Baltic Sea. Sailing to Russia, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania is not covered by the insurance.

If the Danish Maritime Authority has assigned the vessel a specific sailing area, coverage is conditional on not exceeding this area.
