What does car insurance cover?

Car insurance isn't just a necessity - it's your peace of mind on the road. At Fælles Forsikring, we offer car insurance that protects both you and your car against unforeseen events. Our insurance gives you peace of mind, whether you're taking short daily trips or going on longer journeys.

Liability coverage

Liability coverage is the statutory part of your car insurance and protects you financially if you cause damage to other people or their property while driving.

Coverage includes:

  • Personal injury: If you cause physical injury to others in a road accident.
  • Damage to other people's property: For example, if you damage another car, building, bicycle or other property.

Liability cover protects your financial responsibility for damage caused to others and is a prerequisite for driving a car, as it is a legal requirement to have liability insurance on motorised vehicles.

Comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance gives you extra security by covering damage to your own car, whether the damage occurs in traffic or as a result of other unforeseen events.

Coverage includes:

  • Road traffic accidents: Regardless of whether you are at fault for the accident.
  • Theft and vandalism: Protection if your car is stolen or damaged.
  • Fire and weather damage: Cover against damage caused by fire, storm or flood.
  • Parking damage: Damage to your car while parked.
  • Glass and stone damage: Repair or replacement of broken windows.

With comprehensive cover, you get peace of mind as your car is protected against most unforeseen events. The deductible selected on the policy applies in the event of a claim.

Benefit

Covers stone chip repairs without an excess being charged (If comprehensive insurance is selected.)

Driver's coverage

Driver's coverage cover protects the driver of the car against personal injuries that occur as a result of a single accident while driving the insured car.

The compensation is calculated in accordance with the Compensation Liability Act and includes the following:

  • Loss of earnings
  • Permanent injury: Coverage for permanent injury of 5% or more
  • Pain and suffering
  • Loss of earning capacity: Coverage for loss of earning capacity of 15% or more

Driver's seat cover provides financial support for serious injuries, so you can focus on recovering and moving forward after an accident.

Parking damage

Parking damage cover protects you against certain types of damage to your car that can occur while it is parked. The cover applies to damage up to DKK 15,000 and requires no excess.

Coverage includes:

  • Collision: Damage caused by another car while your car has been legally parked.
  • Shopping trolley damage: Damage caused by a shopping trolley hitting your car.
  • Car door impact: Damage sustained by a car door when entering or exiting close to your car.

With this cover, you can park with peace of mind knowing that your car is protected against common parking damage.

Extended Glass Insurance

Extended Glass Insurance covers damage to all glass in your car without deductible.

  • Mirror glass
  • Headlight glass
  • Windscreens
  • Sun and panorama roof

If the windscreen needs to be replaced, a deductible of DKK 1,000 will be charged.

Free Damage Waiver

If you choose free damage insurance on your car insurance, a wide range of damages will be covered without an excess, so you avoid using your comprehensive insurance and having to pay an excess.

These types of damage, for example, are covered with a DKK 0 excess:

  • Damage as a result of both serial and single acts of vandalism

Electric and hybrid cover

Electric and hybrid cover is for those who either own or lease an electric or hybrid car. It covers certain types of damage without an excess being charged. For example:

  • Damage to the battery of the electric and hybrid car as a result of a short circuit or other sudden cause during the first 8 years from the first registration date.
  • Fire or theft of the vehicle's type-approved charging cables and adapters.

The cover can also help if you own/rent a charging box that breaks down and is replaced by another insurance where you are subsequently faced with a deductible claim. You can be reimbursed up to DKK 10,000 if the charging point is replaced on your home insurance, for example.

Leasing

Handover insurance: When you hand over a leased car, the company is often very thorough in inspecting the car for minor damage. You are covered for minor damage to the car on delivery up to DKK 5,000 per damage (max. DKK 30,000 in total) and only one excess is charged regardless of the number of damages.

Initial payment: Covers reimbursement of the initial payment paid on the lease agreement if the car is stolen or totalled. Coverage ends after 3 years. We'll help you customise the amount of cover to suit your specific agreement.

Questions and answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Below, you can find answers to frequently asked questions. Additionally, you can download the terms and fact sheet for the

bilforsikring.

Is it required by law to have car insurance in Denmark?

Yes, it is mandatory to have liability insurance for your car. Liability insurance covers your liability both in Denmark and abroad if you cause damage to other people, their vehicles or property with your car. The insurance also includes cover for passengers in the car in the event of an accident. If you want to be covered in the event of a single driver accident, you must opt for driver's seat cover. Read more about liability insurance.

What happens if I don't have liability insurance on my car?

If you don't have liability insurance, you could face a fine and a potentially large claim in the event of an accident. In addition, you risk a daily fee of DKK 250 for every day your car is uninsured, a rule that has been in place since 1 January 2019. To cover damage to your own car, such as collisions or other accidents, you need to add comprehensive insurance. Comprehensive insurance is especially relevant if you have a newer or valuable car.

I have sold my car - how do I cancel my insurance?

When you sell your car, you do not need to cancel your car insurance yourself. It is a legal requirement that the car is insured against third party liability, and we are automatically notified by the Motor Register when the car has been re-registered to the new owner or cancelled completely. Based on this, we will take care of cancelling your insurance. If you have a credit balance on your insurance, the amount will automatically be refunded to you. So you don't have to do anything when selling your car - we take care of the rest.

Do I need to carry a red and green card when driving abroad?

Whether you need to carry a red or green card depends on the destination.

Green card: This serves as proof that your car is insured against third party liability. In many countries within the EU and EEA it is not necessary, but in some other countries it may be required. *

Red card: Proves that your car has comprehensive insurance. With the Red Card app, you can quickly get help in the event of an accident. The app allows you to call for roadside assistance with precise GPS location. Read more about red and green card requirements and which countries require the green card so you are properly prepared.

What do I do if I have glass damage?

Has your car suffered a stone chip or glass damage to the windscreen? You can easily have the damage repaired or the windscreen replaced at our partners, Dansk Bilglas or Carglass. You choose whether you want to visit a workshop or have them come to you - it's both fast and flexible. Comprehensive cover: Stone chips can be repaired free of charge. Extended glass cover: Covers damage to mirror glass, headlight glass, windscreens, and sun or panorama roofs at no excess. Windscreen replacement: There is a DKK 1,000 excess.
